Well after sort of working out the POI stuff - I am now confused over the difference between WayPoints and POI.
I have downloaded and installed my POI on my Zumo 550 unit - no worries.
I would like to be able to see these POI when I use Mapsource.
Have I missed something?
How do I do it?
thanks

I found, if you download your POIs in GPX format you can open the GPX file into MapSource. After selecting File, Open (in MapSource) change the File Type selection at the bottom of the window from .gdb to .gpx. Then locate the GPX file, click on it and then click open.

The POI is a collection of locations that you can search and look up on your GPS unit. Mapsource handles them differently than your GPS Unit.

When you take a GPX POI and load it into Mapsource, Mapsource imports them and handles them as "Waypoints". That way, they can display on the map all at once.

If your POI is in CSV format, you must first convert it to GPX for Mapsource to read it. It basically handles your custom POI's a lot differently than the list of businesses already in the Mapsource database (like local restaurants etc). I am not aware of any way to take a custom POI file and merge it with the current built-in POI database.

What's a simple way to convert waypoints to POIs? Is there a good tool for that? How about for creating POI categories and re-arranging existing POIs into different categories?

OK. I downloaded a collection of POIs. I converted them to a .gpx file. I loaded them into Mapsource. They show up in the "Waypoints" tab on the left of the screen. But they won't display on the map! If I select a waypoint, and "show on map" the waypoint shows up on a blank map. Waypoints that I make myself in Mapsource show up OK. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Mapsource 6.15.7, Windows Vista Business x64.
