I tried to put on a map which i had downloaded from rapidshare.com but after hours of installing the map was not functional. It said it had to be activated. Any ideas?
Plus I have 2 maps on my tomtom, one England and Ireland and the other is Central Europe, but when I switch maps to Central Europe and try to set up a journey from UK to Europe it only brings up UK or Ireland. I'm confused. Does the Euro map only work when you cross the channel?

Rapidshare is not a safe place to look for any map updates. It is a site where people distribute hacked stuff, so be careful what you download from here. I suspect your "new" maps overwrited some other required file and you may need to reinstall your original maps.
To activate your new map(s) you have to download various tomtom map keygen programs. Who knows what adware, spyware or viruses they contain? I used a bit rapidshare before. It took me 2 months to clean my PC after just a single nasty keygen download.

| Downloaded Tomtom maps (as well as ones copied from your friends) would not work on your device because they should be activated on your unique device id. If you are purchasing maps, Tomtom does it automatically.

The maps you download need to be "registered" to your TT, the only legal way to do this is to buy the maps from the TT website.
There are keygen's out there but be careful you don't brick your TT if you use them.

Russian mobsters and hackers know...
They use it a lot... Rapidshare does not scan saved files. You can use their host to save anything.

I agree. These problems were found on megaupload, fileshare and rapidshare.com:
Adware - TCent, Adware-BDSearch, WebThunder
Trojans - Generic Downloader.x trojan; Generic PWS.y trojan, Dropper trojan, Keylogger
They can change your default search page, change your default home page, add buttons, toolbars or add ons, open a gate and expose your passwords, private files. Some of them disable all installed PC virus scaners to prevent to be blocked.
It is extremely important to scan your computer after any rapidshare download.
I use Symantec online scaner. It's always uptodate.

I know... Got a zip (TT map and tt7_keygen.exe) with BSOD Trojan (Blue Screen of Death) from austech 2 weeks ago. Had to reformat 2 HDD and to reinstall all software. What a pain...

| I downloaded Keygen3.G. My anti-virus software (AVG) reports the Tomtom3.exe file contains "Trojan Horse PSW.Generic7.ASEI". Austech advises to disable the AVG to fix this error. Do I need to reformat my hard disc drive?

Why would they scan suspicious files?

| Sometimes anti virus programs detect anything that had the word keygen as a virus, even if it is not! I guess sometimes you have to read comments and just take a chance!

| Tomtom probably spams download sites with fake, virus loaded maps and keygens to disable your device so you have to buy their maps to "fix" it.

Sure they would...
Tomtom is the first who managed to infect a car GPS with a virus.
They sold virus loaded GPS navigation devices: http://www.gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/topic/692.html
Now they have a full access to your PC via Home software. Try to find what it sends back to the base...
