I am a Taxi Driver. Navman has to be to the most expensive brick you can buy. It cannot be used in a cab as it can take up to 16 mins to calculate a route. It has many faults - some listed below.
Does not switch on at random- yes I checked the battery
Loops between screens at random times
Decides randomly to spell out street names letter by letter.
Maps are way out of date - Streets that have been changed 10yrs ago are not correct - using 2007 maps
can take up to 16 min to calc a route.
can take up to 14min to recalculate an incorrect route
you cannot set a default city - this means you have to select the city each and every time - lots of key strokes for nothing.
They have the rudest, most ineffective tech support available on the planet. Mine is an S80 unit.
Read all these forum posts and save yourself some money and multiple headaches.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! |

| You probably have some problem with a weak GPS signal reception. An inexpensive external antena would sort out most of your problems. Keep your POI's up to date.

This and previous post are out of order.
Read what the original post stated please.
There has, and continues to be problems with certain Navman GPS units which haven't been addressed to customer satisfaction, and no reply's received for emails sent to Navman.
Bad public relations I suggest...
"Navman" one of the best ????? I beg to differ, as I have one also, along with 2 other GPS units to make a comparison.

| I had great success with the samsung Omnia i910 SmartPhone, Its responsive the maps are updated. What I suggest is the next time you upgrade your cellphone, get a SmartPhone w/GPS. My Wife has a magellan & my Omnia works better.

The original info was about a GPS used in a taxi, so don't think a smartphone would be of much use to the gent.
They maybe ok for a customer to check if the driver is taking the shortest route, but a little difficult for a taxi driver to use whilst driving.
There are some good units out there at the moment.

|
|
| My in-laws have a Navman (V30 I think) and have been very happy with it. They are not very technically minded but find it reliable and simple. They paid top dollar as they don't shop around, but could have taken it back under warranty if they were unhappy with its performance.

|
|
| I said earlier that my technically-challenged in-laws loved their navman. It's a V50 and has been great for them as it is simple to use, clear and says street names. A few problems with routing via one way streets the wrong way or not getting onto main roads properly, but overall happy. The only problem is that now LAST year's maps are going to cost them almost as much as a new unit. I wonder if what you say is correct - an expensive brick after only a relatively short time.

|
|
Hi All,
A newbie here. Although new here, I have been a GPS user since 2004 (all Navman - PiN 300, S90i, S300T and now MY-55T). My main reason to being GPS addicted, is that on average I travel to Europe about every 9 months, for about a 5-6 weeks trip, and find it essential to have a GPS system for peace of mind. As I lease vehicles in Europe I do cover lots of "miles" (kms) and without my Navman I would be totally lost.
In regards to cost of map updates, I generally have found it more 'pocket friendly' to update my units. Considering my first PiN300 was approx $1000 for the unit with the West European maps upgrading to a new unit about every 2 years with European maps has been relatively inexpensive. The MY-55T with European maps (East & West) is roughly $500.
Considering the cost of living going up over past years, then GPS units have really dropped in price quite dramatically, now all with better technology and options available.
My forthcoming trip to Europe will be the MY-55T's first, so it will be interesting to put is through it's paces.
Regards,
Denis

I would have liked if the Navman would switch off like the Garmin does, when you turn the ignition off.

S80, total crap. Slow, inacurate ,turns off at random ,out of date maps I can't think of a worse thing to have in my car apart from the wife, at least I can turn the S80 off.

I totally agree. I have S80 also and have same problem with turning off at just when you need it. Then takes for ever to reload... not the best when in the city.
